Information on Assembly Bill 2235

Joe Cowan is a member of the California Building Industry Association (CBIA).

Assembly Bill 2235, a statewide school facilities bond, is an important piece of legislation that will greatly improve our schools and student academic performance. Dave Cogdill, President & CEO of the California Building Industry Association, sent a letter to all CBIA members today asking for their support to ensure our voters pass this critical bond measure this coming November. The following is an excerpt from Dave Cogdill’s letter:

Yesterday, the authors of Assembly Bill 2235, Assemblymembers Joan Buchanan (D – Alamo) and Curt Hagman (R – Chino Hills), hosted a press conference advocating the need to place a statewide school facilities bond on the ballot this November. CBIA attended the conference along with a wide array of supporters including education advocates, labor and the greater business community. If you’d like to view clips from the press conference you can see them here.

Both leading up to the press conference and as a result, the past two days have been filled with prominent stories on the need for the school bond and the effort to pass it out of the legislature in a dozen newspapers and media sources around the state.

We wanted to share with you some of the highlights and hope that you and your company will utilize your networks to promote these stories and help us multiply our advocacy efforts.

  • Jim Miller of the Sacramento Bee wrote “Supporters make case for California school bond”.  In addition it appeared in the Fresno Bee and SLO Tribune.
  • Former California Superintendent of School Jack O’Connell was published in the San Bernardino Sun, Los Angeles Daily News, and Long Beach Press Telegram with his op-ed, “Better school facilities boost student achievement”.
  • Joe Dixon, the Chair of the Coalition for Adequate School Housing, was published in Fox & Hounds for his op-ed, “California Needs a Statewide School Bond”.
  • A variety of media sources included the school bond as one of the top priorities for the Legislature to focus on now that they have returned to session including Capitol Public Radio, KQED,and the Sacramento Bee.

The media efforts are continuing and we hope you will follow CBIA on both Twitter and Facebook to stay updated on the school bond and the #PassAB2235 efforts instantly.

Sincerely,

Dave Cogdill
CBIA CEO & President
